A Birthday Wish.

People ask me all the time to explain my love for music, to describe why my favorite artists are my favorite and yet, when I do, when I try to put what people like John mean to me into words all I get in return is an awkward smile and a nod. They don’t get it, they don’t understand and it’s fine because most people never will.

But I know you who are here on Tumblr do get it, you get it because you feel the same way and that’s the amazing thing about a community such as this. You find people who feel the same way as you and you create a family. You no longer have to feel awkward or misunderstood or ashamed, you just feel a part of something.

John has changed my life. It’s an incredibly simple statement to make, but the absolute truth. He came into my life when I needed it, he gave me a soundtrack for the happy days as well as the sad ones, he gave me words of inspiration and truth and the push I sometimes need to get through the day. He created for me a safe place in his music, where no one and nothing can touch me or bring me down. He’s brought me utter happiness, a smile to my face and laughter to my heart. He’s brought me understanding, a light to guide me through the night and a map to follow through the tough times. He’s brought me friends; amazing, incredible, people who I am honored to know in my life.

So with all that I say,

Thank you John, for dedicating your life to your art. For filling the world with beautiful music, lovely lyrics and food for thought. Thank you for creating the soundtrack to my life and giving me something to turn to when the world sometimes becomes too much. Thank you for being the incredibly talented, intelligent man who inspires me on a daily basis. Thank you for your strength, for getting up, even when everyone tries to knock you down. Thank you for being you.
